It’s not scary and it won’t give you nightmares, but it’s easily the most brutal Tomb Raider game of all time as it has the most blood and gore. But, what’s most memorable about the game is how it leans into horror. The villain is decent and the story of the island is quite interesting. And this results in plenty of exhilarating action set pieces where you scour the land and fight onslaughts of enemies with just your trusty bow and arrow. While the rest of Lara’s shipmates are bog-standard and not very interesting, Lara is at least on her own most of the time. It should have resulted in her becoming the iconic dual-wielding badass that everyone still loves from yesteryear, but it’s impossible to blame this game for the failure of the sequels. Although it took us away from the motorcycles, one-liners, and big bosom, it gave us a noob Lara Croft that was very vulnerable and desperate. The Tomb Raider reboot was one of the best games of the PS3 and Xbox 360 era.
